Integrative Medicine
There is only one best way and that is to use the TOTAL APPROACH. Veterinary Chiropractic, Veterinary Acupuncture (TCVM) and Traditional Veterinary Medicine should be used with other modalities including equine massage to form a complete package.
There is nothing better than Western Veterinary Medicine for giving a specific diagnosis to a pathological process (example- a bone lesion, cushings disease, etc.), rapid treatment for an acute disease process (example- bacterial infection, etc) or infectious disease prevention (vaccination, deworming,etc.). In hospital blood test equipment, radiographs, ultrasound, endoscopes ... these are all essential to providing the best care for your horse.
But there IS more. The entire body is made to move smoothly. Everywhere. The joints should move freely through their normal range of motion. The muscles and tendons should contract and relax easily. Blood, energy and nerve impulses should flow through the body without being slowed. All organs depend on other organs operating properly to maintain their health.
The limitation of Western Veterinary medicine is it does not address many dysfunctions of energy/blood flow and joint movement. Many of these dysfunctions are seen BEFORE a pathological process (what Western Veterinary medicine finds to diagnose a condition) occurs.
If these dysfunctions can be corrected before the disease process occurs, then disease has been prevented or slowed. This is the basis for using TCVM and Chiropractic on a routine basis to prevent disease. This then maximizes health and performance.
Veterinary Chiropractic care and TCVM can work very well with Western Veterinary medicine to treat most conditions (internal, lameness, skin, uveitis, digestive, etc.). By using these complementary treatments, a "problem" can be approached from several different perspectives. This can only aid in the treatment.
The true key to maximizing the use of Veterinary Chiropractic care and TCVM is to use them as a preventative. If you want to get the most out of your horse then ALL systems must be operating at 100%. By using a TOTAL APPROACH to preventative health care, you can maximize your horses health and performance.
